The NSW Rural Fire Service is attending a bushfire approximately 15 kilometres north of Braidwood, off Nerriga Road.
The fire is currently burning out of control and is approximately 1.5 hectares in size.
There are around a dozen crews on site with 40 firefighters and a helicopter providing aerial support.
There is currently no threat to property as the fire is moving in a northwesterly direction away from urban areas.
A spokesman for the RFS said the crews were confident they could contain the fire this afternoon.
Motorists are urged to stay alert if travelling through the area.
The RFS were first alerted to the fire shortly before 2pm on Friday after receiving multiple 000 calls.
A plume of smoke can be seen coming from the area and it is believed to be burning in a forested area.
The fire is currently listed at the advice level meaning there is no imminent danger to people or property but remain aware.
A total fire ban is in place in the Queanbeyan-Palerang council area for Saturday January 20.
The fire is burning in a location west of Castleview Driver Training Centre.
