The event was organised by the Two Fires Festival, which seeks to advocate for arts and activism.
“Celebrating a day that for the original Australians is not necessarily a day for celebration at all,” said event organiser Julia Green.
“There seems to be growing momentum of white people, as well as, of course, black fellas, realising that it’s really not ok that this continues.”
Personally, she sees the date of January 26 as an insult to First Australians, says Ms Green.
“It totally disrespects their wishes, and it totally disrespects their culture in my view. I have nothing against celebrating a day for all Australians, but I think this is not the date,” she said.
