Palerang United defeated by Majura FC

Round one of the Palerang United FC men's and women's competition is over with the men going down 5-2 to Majura FC without regular keeper Andrew Crisp due to injury.

A spirited game saw some fine attacking football from both teams.

The number of chances created by both teams were similar, but Majura FC were more clinical in front of goal as they took a 4-0 halftime lead.

A change of keeper at halftime and a few positional changes saw Palerang FC pile on the pressure and get the score back to 4-2, with George Benc creating two assists for Mark Roberts to score.

Kenny Jacobs had a great first game ever at left back and then in goals to keep Majura FC to just the one goal in the second half which saw the final score reach 5-2 to Majura.

A special mention goes to Kaitlyn Harrison, who pulled on a jersey to help out the lads after confirmation from the ref that she was able to play. It certainly helped some of the Palerang players enjoy a rest.

Palerang certainly have some improving to do but it's great to be scoring goals early in the season.

The Palerang United FC Div Three girls had their game postponed however, the Div Five Women took on Monaro Panthers FC at Kaleen.

The warm conditions played into the hands of a more youthful Monaro team and two early goals upset Palerang's rhythm in defence.

Once again Palerang's attack created about equal the number opportunities on goal but the finishing was off up front and Monaro enjoyed a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Palerang rallied in the second half and were a lot more organised in midfield which created some excellent chances on goal, however the Monaro defense and keeper managed to keep a clean sheet for the game.

A goal late in the half to Monaro saw them win the game 4-0.

A much improved second half gave Palerang something positive to take into next week's game. There were four mother and daughter combinations in this team this week and the girls certainly had some fun during the match. They are likely to manage a few wins this season if they keep improving.
