Each year the event, promoted by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), features a picture book by an Australian author and illustrator, which is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
The book this year was Alpacas with Maracas, by Matt Cosgrove, and the local reading was hosted by Millpond Farm, where alpacas joined St Bede's kindergarten class with their Year 6 buddies, along with a group of young families to hear local poet and author, Harry Laing, performing the book. By all accounts, children and alpacas alike had a ball.
