Braidwood once had a thriving business chamber which made significant contributions to the commercial health of the town, including bringing the Bendigo Bank to Braidwood.
"Now, with new businesses in town, and a lot of success stories from older businesses, some of which have been in town for generations, the mood has been suggesting it's time for a new Chamber to emerge," said Ms Gearing.
Business Chambers have long been recognised as strong advocates for businesses in the local, state and federal arenas, and important partners in business growth.
For rural regions, particularly in an era of amalgamations and global uncertainty, they are a valuable link between stakeholders, delivering information and insights that allow small businesses to adapt, survive and thrive.
In response to the renewed interest in having a local business chamber, a small group of volunteers has been working hard to create a new Chamber, with goals relevant to Braidwood businesses today.
Over six months, a working committee has consulted with QPRC and state chambers, and developed a set of purposes and objectives, and sourced some free business building opportunities available immediately.
Among the plans for the new Chamber is the reintroduction of the Braidwood Winter Ball, to be held this year on 10 August. It will be a celebration of Braidwood's goldrush heritage.
Members of the chamber gathered at the Braidwood Museum on Monday morning to kick-start their plans. The museum itself will be assisting with the preparations for the ball with its extensive collection of items from the goldrush days.
The Business Chamber is holding an information night this Thursday, 6.00pm at the Royal Hotel. Business owners are encouraged to attend, partake in drinks and nibbles, network informally with other local business people and learn about new opportunities and those already being offered.
Ms Gearing said, "this is a great opportunity for business people to have their voice heard on what matters most to them as a business in the Braidwood region."
