Federal Member for Eden-Monaro Kristy McBain had acknowledged that the residents across the electorate are facing the issue of lack of affordable housing at a recent town hall meeting in which Federal Labor leader Anthony Albanese was also present.

To gain a better understanding of the situation, the Braidwood Community Association (BCA) is investigating the growing shortage of affordable housing in and around Braidwood.

The BCA is conducting a survey for the residents and they can submit their responses here by September 17.

Mayor Tim Overall said that regional cities across NSW are experiencing unprecedented population growth resulting in widespread housing shortages.

Talking about a recently released report by Regional Australia Institute and the Commonwealth Bank, he had earlier said that the study revealed that the Queanbeyan-Palerang Local Government Area is the seventh fastest-growing LGA out of 75 in Australia (in terms of migration shift from capital cities).

"The modest population growth of Braidwood, which is currently experiencing housing pressure partly due to the Majors Creek gold mining operation, is expected to continue into the immediate future."

Meanwhile, another survey by the BCA will help in choosing the priority projects for Braidwood and the district.

Once the findings of the survey are released, the BCA will ask candidates of the upcoming local government elections to commit to the results as part of the forthcoming council elections.
